Space Management

While it is recognized that the assignment and utilization of space (e.g., office, classroom, laboratory, storage, performance, lounge) falls within the responsibility of the administration of the college, it is also recognized that the key stakeholders at the college should be consulted and have input into the decision on space utilization. No department, unit, or division “owns” space. However, space is a college resource and the assignment and utilization of space, as determined by the administration, is based on programmatic need and on what is in the best interests of the college, particularly as it pertains to the academic mission, research, service and outreach priorities established by the college.

Space Planning and Management Process

Key to the college’s space planning and management process is the creation and maintenance of an accurate space inventory, audit/surveys, utilization/need assessment and departmental space assignments database. The number, type, and condition of college spaces help inform Facilities and Campus Services planning and prioritization for the allocation of college resources.
