Furniture & Equipment Disposal Policy

Policy Objective

To promote the judicious management of handling and disposal of College owned furniture, fixtures and equipment (FF&E).

Policy Statement

Facilities and Campus Services is charged with the proper handling and disposal of furniture, fixtures and equipment in the most appropriate, customer service-oriented, and cost-effective manner for Pomona College.

Application

This policy applies to all members of the Pomona College Community.

Policy Requirements

It is the responsibility of all departments to promote the judicious management of the handling and disposal of all College furniture, fixtures and equipment. salvaged/scrap materials. Failure to follow this policy may result in disciplinary action.

Procedure

The following guidelines are intended to be the designated manner for handling and/or disposal of furniture, fixtures and equipment replaced/obtained through modifications/upgrades/renovations of existing space:

  1. Pomona College defines Surplus Personal Property as “any physical asset for which the College has no operational need in the foreseeable future”.
  2. Surplus Personal Property is “identified and approved for disposal by the responsible Facilities and Campus Services Assistant Director” in consultation with the Assistant Vice President of facilities and Campus Services.
  3. Employees of each department may be encouraged to “salvage” materials (i.e., electrical wiring, piping, valves, metal components, etc.) which may, as determined by the appropriate Assistant Director be considered to have a scrap value. The monetary value of the salvaged material(s) will be remitted back to the College.
